The Stepford Wives

I re-watched The Stepford Wives. It was made in 2004. It has Nicole Kidman, Bette Midler, Matthew Broderick, Glenn Close, Christopher Walken, and Faith Hill in it.

Big Warning: there is a little bit of violence.

In this movie, Joanna and Walter move to Stepford, CT because Joanna had a nervous breakdown after getting fired from her job. In this modern version of Stepford, a gay couple is one of newbies of the town. Walter joins the Men’s Association and they shown him the benefits of having a robot wife. Joanna, Bobbie, and Roger finds out about the wives aren’t exactly human. Bobbie and Roger becomes robots and Joanna is next. Only she doesn’t want to be a robot so Walter and Jonna come up with a plan. They turn everyone back to human. They had computer chips implanted in their brains. Then they “killed” Mike. Mike seemed to be the one behind the whole town, but it was actually his wife. Mike was actually a robot. His wife killed the real Mike many years before and then made a robot of him and decided to make a robot town.

I liked this movie. Next week I’m watching The Last Picture Show. Stephen King is obsessed with this movie in Lisey’s Story (the book and show) so I’m going to watch it.

The Revenge of The Stepford Wives

I watched The Revenge of The Stepford Wives. It is the last of the Stepford wives sequels I am watching. It was made in 1980. It has Sharon Gless,
Julie Kavner, Audra Lindley, Don Johnson, and Arthur Hill in it.

Big Warning: there is a little bit of violence.

In this movie, it is 10 years later after the first movie (the one made in 1975). Kaye Foster is a tv reporter and she wants to do a story on the town of Stepford, CT because there is no violence and it seems too perfect of a town. After she tells the motel owner that she is reporter, one of the robot wives almost runs her over. A human woman named Megan becomes friends with Kaye. Megan’s husband is trying to become a police officer in the town. He ends up joining the Men’s Association which means Megan becomes a robot. All over the town there is siren that goes off every few hours. The robot wives stop what they are doing to take their medicine. Kaye overhears about the rules when Megan becomes a robot. You can’t give them alcohol and they shouldn’t over medicate either. Of course Kaye breaks the rules and gives Megan a lot of alcohol in her tea. Megan becomes normal again. The men find out and want Kaye dead or get her to become a robot. Kaye and Megan form a plan to kill the man who started it all. They make the siren go off several times. The robot wives over medicate and they start destroying things. Then they push the man over the edge and kick him and push him until he is completely dead. Kaye leaves Stepford.

I liked this movie. Next week I’m rewatching the remake of The Stepford Wives that was made in 2004.

Play Dead

I finished reading Play Dead by Harlan Coben. This is one of his standalone books and it is his first book published. Harlan Coben has written many books and some of his books are shows and movies on Netflix.

Big Warning: there is some violence and some shocking parts.

Note: I had two theories. I was half right about one theory, but I was completely wrong about the other theory. It will keep you guessing.

In this book, a woman named Laura secretly marries a man named David. David is a basketball player. They secretly go to Australia for a honeymoon. Laura’s mother disapproves of the marriage and that’s why they had to go in secret. They were having a good time until Laura is sent away to a business meeting. David then gets a call and goes to meet someone. He leaves a note for Laura and he disappears. The note said that he was going for a swim.  He was found to be dead and he drowned. It really didn’t make sense to Laura because he was known to be a great swimmer. So she digs deeper and she finds out some of David’s money is missing too. She finds out everything that happened in Australia has something to the past. She learns a terrible and shocking family secret that has led to three murders to happen. She stops the killer from killing a fourth victim. The killer ends up committing suicide.

I loved this book. I will read more of Harlan’s books. But now I’m going to read Lisey’s Story by Stephen King.

The Stepford Children

I watched The Stepford Children. It was made in 1987. It is one of the Stepford sequels. It has Barbara Eden, Don Murray, Tammy Lauren, Pat Corley, Randall Batinkoff, and Debbie Barker in it.

Big Warning: there is a little of violence.

In this movie, Steven Harding wants to move his family back to his hometown Stepford, CT. He has two teenagers Mary and David. Steven joins the men’s association and they want him to change his teenagers. The teenagers and most of the wives are robots. They all lack emotion. Steven’s wife wants to join the high school PETA, but there is no PETA (I guess it’s because everyone is perfect robots. They were so perfect that went crazy when some rock music played at a dance.) The principal tells Steven’s wife some surprising news about Steven’s first wife. His first wife had mysterious died. He never talked about her. His wife does some digging (literally) and finds out his first wife was a robot. She also finds out her daughter was now robot and her son was in danger of being a robot too. She ends up saving her real daughter and her son. And they leave Stepford.

This was a creepy movie and I liked it. Next week I’m watching Revenge of the Stepford Wives. It is the last of the sequels and it was made in 1980.

The Stepford Husbands

I watched The Stepford Husbands. It is one of the Stepford sequels. It was made in 1996. It has Donna Mills, Michael Ontkean, Cindy Williams, Sarah Douglas, Louise Fletcher, Jeffrey Pillars, and Joe Inscoe.

Big Warning: there is a little bit of violence.

In this movie, a woman named Jodi and her husband Mick live in New York. Mick is a writer and he is unhappy in New York. Jodi says maybe a change of scenery would help him. Her friend lives in Stepford CT so they decide to move there. Mick is unhappy there too. He is always angry. Jodi’s friend decides to intervene and get him some “help.” But Jodi doesn’t know that the couple that lived in the house before had been through that same “medical” help and the man shot his wife and himself. After Mick goes through the reprogramming, he has to take alot of medication. Mick is too agreeable to Jodi. Jodi switches Mick’s meds and takes his original meds to the hospital to find out what they are. They are serious drugs. Mick gets really sick and they try to change Mick again. Jodi tries to free Mick and the doctor who started it all decides to help free Mick. Mick then writes a book about it and it becomes a movie.

I liked this movie. Next week I’m watching The Stepford Children. Another sequel that was made in 1987.

Scales of the Empire

I finished reading The Scales of the Empire by Kylie Chan. It is the book of the space dragon book series. There are three books in the book series. She has also written a martial arts fantasy book series of 9 books.

Big Warning: there is some violence

Note: I Did Not like this book. I love the martial arts books better because the writing was better in it. I am not reading the next book in the series right now. I might read the next book while waiting on other books.

In this book, a black woman named Jian is a soldier. She is also a psi. She is in a relationship with a man and a woman. The other woman is pregnant. Jian hadn’t told her partners because she was afraid they would dump her. Jian is picked to go to another planet to help colonized it. She agrees to have two kids from two fathers. (This is set in the future where supposedly there is not much oxygen left.) While training for the program, a spaceship appears. It is a space dragon alien and her AI named Marque. The space dragon had saved some other colonists. The space dragon picks Jian and captain Richard Alto to come on her ship. They instantly fall in love with the space dragon. The space dragon meets Earth’s officials. The general tells Jian and Richard that they are mind-controlled by the space dragon. They don’t believe it, but they later believe it.  (It is obvious that they are. They later found out all the space dragons mind control other beings.) The space dragon agrees to help take other countries to other planets so they can colonize them. Marque gives everyone extended life and controls the weather (which is a bad idea in my opinion.) Jian and Richard live on the space dragon’s ship. They discover an enemy of the space dragons which are cat aliens. Marque doesn’t save Richard’s life and he is grounded on Earth for awhile. He refuses a scale from the space dragon. He rather die than to be mind-controlled again. Jian discovers that her partners want to use her to get to the space dragon and she breaks up with them.  Jian goes to the planet that she promised to go to and then the cat aliens appear. It tells them that space dragons want to control Earth. The cat demands them to give it their food. It takes the food (potatoes) and kills almost everyone. Jian is the only survivor. Then the general tells Jian that the officials want the space dragon to impregnate humans so they can own dragons that can take them to other planets. The space dragon doesn’t want to but agrees if Richard is brought up to her ship to be healed. They agree, and the space dragon starts the process. But the space dragon doesn’t tell the girls not to have sex which causes almost human extinction. There is another cat attack and they try to spray them with chili pepper which works. It doesn’t kill them but hurts them. The space dragon’s mother agrees to stop the human extinction in exchange for their help to hurt the cat aliens. Marque even gives every human a soulstone.

Like I said I didn’t like this book. Now I’m reading Play Dead by Harlon Coben.

The Stepford Wives (1975)

I watched The Stepford Wives (1975). I didn’t know there was an older version. I watched it on Tubi. It has Katharine Ross, Peter Masterson, Tina Louise, Nanette Newman, and Paula Prentiss in it.

Big Warning: there is a little bit of violence.

In this movie, Joanna and Walter move to a new little town called Stepford. Joanna is a photographer and Walter is a lawyer. The town has an all-male group. In order to be part of the group, you have to sacrifice your wife. Joanna and another woman named Bobbie are the only two real women in town. They later discover that the other women are robots. Joanna tries to run, but in the end, her robot takes her over.

I liked this movie. Next week I’m watching The Stepford Husbands. It was one of the sequels. It was made in 1996.
