Raya and the last Dragon

I finally got to see Raya and the Last Dragon. It has Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim, and Jona Xiao in it.

Big Warning: there is some violence.

In this awesome movie, a girl named Raya befriends a girl named Namaari who is part of another part of their country. They are both love the legend of Sisu. Sisu is the last water dragon who had blasted away a spirit that leaves everything is ruin. Raya decides to show Namaari the ball of Sisu’s magic. Namaari betrays Raya and all the families fight for the ball. The ball breaks. The spirit comes and leaves everything in ruin again. Each of the families take a piece of the ball to protect against the spirit. Raya goes in search of Sisu since Sisu is the only one who can save the country. Raya finds Sisu and they hunt for the pieces of the ball. Namaari hunts down Raya and fights her. It is Namaari who blasts away the spirit and Sisu comes back to life.

I loved, loved this movie. I think my uncle would have loved this movie too. He loved Lara Croft. Next week I’m watching Up.

Queen of Volts

I finished listening to Queen of Volts by Amanda Foody. It is the last book of the Shadow game book series.

Big Warning: there is lots of violence

In this book, Everyone learns that Brice made a game. The game was to get all five cards of your targets in order to win the game.  You can take them by force if necessary which does happen sadly. Harrison was trying to figure out how to save some people without any bloodshed. Brice had set up the game to get one person to come into the city. That one person was called The Bargainer. She makes bargains with people in exchange for something the person wants the most.  Brice wants his girlfriend healed. It was thought that the Bargainer can do that. But it was found out that she couldn’t heal his girlfriend. They couldn’t find out how to kill the Bargainer. Levi and Enne kept having the same dream of a hallways of doors. They later learn that it was shade put on them (by Brice) to lead them to a door. The door led them to Enne’s father who told them how to kill the Bargainer. Meanwhile, the bargainer took Lola’s memory in exchange of information of who Enne’s father is. The Bargainer and Lola became friends.  It also found out that The Bargainer had controlled one of the players so she could win the game. Enne and Levi came up with a plan to kill the Bargainer with tainted volts. But it left Enne without her talent and Levi became sick. With the Bargainer dead, it was thought the game would end. But it didn’t. It was found out much later that Harvey was tied to the game. He could only end the game. Brice became the next Bargainer which meant he couldn’t be killed. He was very powerful. Harvey gained controlled over Brice and took away the bargainer power from Brice. But Levi was still sick. They did find a temporary solution (which I think sucks since this is the last book). Levi becomes an intern in Harrison’s office. Sofia gets her memories back and remembers her spilt talent and that she is Harrison’s daughter. Lola gets her memories back too. Enne becomes a gangster again so she can repair some ruined land.

I loved this book and the book series. Now I’m reading River Woman, River Demon by Jennifer Givhan.

Enchanto

I watched Enchanto. I had been wanting to see this movie since it came out. It has Stephanie Beatriz, María Cecilia Botero, John Leguizamo, Mauro Castillo, Jess Darrow, Noemi Josefina Flores, and Ravi Cabot-Conyers in it.

Big Warning: Happy tears again.

In this movie, a girl named Mirabel has a magical family. Her grandmother started it all by praying for a miracle when her husband was captured by the terrorists. Her answer was a magical candle. But Mirabel didn’t get any magical powers when she was old enough. She didn’t really accept that she didn’t have any magical powers, but she did help her other family members with being scared. (I really think this was her gift and her insight into the future.) Later on she saw the house falling apart. She seeks out Bruno who can see into the future to know what he saw. He saw an uncertain path for her. She makes him to see another vision. In this new one, she sees how to save the house and the magic. In the end, she patches things up with her cousin, and her grandmother. (Like I said this is her gift.) She also makes the house magical again.

I loved this movie. Next week I’m watching Raya and the Last Dragon.

The King of Fools

I finally finished reading King of Fools by Amanda Foody. It took me a long time because I had to remember what happened in the first book and I really didn’t want it to end. The first book in this book series was called Ace of Spades.

Big Warning: there is some violence and one very sad part.

In this book, Levi and Enne are still under the spell of Vianca. Levi has a meeting with Harrison. Harrison is Vianca’s son. He tells Levi that he is going to run for office against his mother’s pick. He makes a offer to Levi that he could help him win the election and he will kill his mother. Levi agrees to help because he wants to save Enne from Vianca. Enne though is not told about this plan until much later.  Vianca wants Enne to be a street lord. She does and also goes to parties with Vianca. Enne has a secret plan to kill one of the secret society people, so she tells Vianca about doing a riot at a rally. But her plan doesn’t go her way. Later on both Enne and Levi learns there is another person that is under Vianca’s spell. They later learn who that person is and that person kills a lot of people. Harrison does kill his mother.  But she is killed though she makes Enne do something horrible. (This is the very sad part. I don’t like it.) It is revealed at the end that Harrison is up to no good.

I loved this book even though I didn’t like the very sad part.  Now I am listening to Queen of Volts. It’s the next book in the series.

The Book of Life

I watched The Book of Life. It is another animated movie. It has Diego Luna, Zoe Saldana, Channing Tatum, Ron Perlman, Christina Applegate, Ice Cube, Kate del Castillo, Hector Elizondo, and Danny Trejo.

Big Warning: have tissues ready for happy tears.

In this movie, some children go to a museum as a field trip. A woman says she can take of the kids and she leads them into a secret part of the museum which decorated with everything Mexican. She tells them a story from a book called The Book of Life. The story is of two boys who are in love with the same girl. On the day of the dead, the god of the land of the dead and the god of the land of the forgotten made a bet of which boy will win the girl. If the god of the land of the forgotten wins, they will switch places. But the god of land of the forgotten cheats. He gives Joaquin a medal that gives him immortality. Joaquin is a fighter. Manolo, the other boy, wants to be a musician, but his father wants him to be bullfighter. The god of the land of the forgotten tricks Manolo in thinking Maria (the girl both boys love) is dead from a snake bite. Manolo is bit by two snakes and goes to the land of the dead. He meets his family. They help him find the goddess of the land of the dead and help him to defeat an army that is coming to his hometown looking after the immortality medal.

I loved this movie. Next week I’m watching Enchanto.

Coco

I watched Coco. I had been wanting too see this for a long time. It has Anthony Gonzalez, Gael García Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Alanna Ubach, Renee Victor, Jaime Camil, and Ana Ofelia Murguía in it.

Big Warning: Yes have tissues ready.

In this movie, a boy named Miguel wants to be a musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz, but his family hates music of any kind. It is mostly because a family member had chose music over family. Miguel wants to enter a contest, but his grandmother breaks his guitar. He decides to steal Ernesto’s guitar so he can enter into the contest. But before he enters the contest, he enters into the underworld and meets some of his dead relatives (which I think is so cool). They want him to promise not to be musician, but he won’t do it. He searches for Ernesto so he can be a musician and go home too. But he learns that Ernesto is a bad guy and he meets the family member that left his family behind for music.

I loved this movie. Next week I’m watching The Book of Life.

Big Warning: Have tissues ready. I did cry happy tears.

In this movie, Joe is a music teacher. He loves jazz music and he tries to make it big as a jazz musician on weekends. He is offered a full time job as a teacher, but he really wants his chance as jazz musician. His friend says he could try out with a jazz band that needs a pianist. He impresses the band and he is hired. But as he is leaving, he falls into a manhole and his soul goes to the stairs that leads to the great beyond. He freaks out and lands into another portal with new souls. He takes another name and becomes a mentor. The new soul wants to stay there and not to go to earth. Joe falls with him into earth, but Joe’s soul is in a cat’s body and the new soul is in Joe’s body. They try to switch back bodies, but then the new soul doesn’t want to. But an accountant finds them and sends them back through the portal. Joe ends up being successful at mentoring and goes back to earth while the new soul becomes depressed. Joe does his jazz gig, but realizes that being a jazz musician isn’t his thing. He goes back to save the new soul and sends the new soul back to earth. The counselors decide to give Joe a second chance of life on earth.

Loved this movie. But I would like to know if Joe meets the new soul later on on earth. Next week I’m watching Coco.
