Treasure Island (1988)

I watched Treasure Island 1988. I watched it on Plex. It has Valeriy Bessarab,
Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, Viktor Andrienko, Evgeniy Papernyy, Boris Voznyuk, Yuriy Yakovlev, and Georgiy Kishko in it.

Big Warning: there is some violence.

This version is a Russian cartoon. It is in English. They did forgot one character in the movie Mr. Arrow who is thrown overboard by Long John Silver. I didn’t like how the doctor is drawn. Jim Hawkins looks a little older in this version. They also didn’t have his mother in the movie. Billy Bones has a cat in this version. The cat helps Jim in the inn. When the pirates attack them when they are in the stockade, the squire makes a fake bar near a cliff and the pirates run off the cliff. I think that is genius. The doctor gets stuck in a window of the stockade, and the captain tries to make a hole in a painting thinking it’s a window.

I sorta liked this version. Next week I’m watching Treasure Island 1999.

Treasure Island

I watched Treasure Island 1990. No, I still haven’t read the book. This movie version has Charlton Heston, Christian Bale (he’s so cute), Oliver Reed, Christopher Lee, Richard Johnson, Julian Glover, Isla Blair, Clive Wood, Nicholas Amer, Michael Halsey, Richard Beale, and John Benfield in it.

Big Warning: there is some violence.

In this movie version, Jim Hawkins looks a little older than the other versions. He wasn’t as lively as 1930 version. Jim doesn’t help Long John Silver to escape like some of the other versions. He escapes and Jim says they don’t see him again.
Also in this version, Mr. Hands helps Jim steer the ship when he tries to take it over, but he does get hurt a little bit.

I sorta liked this version of Treasure Island. So far I really liked the 1934 version and the anime version. Next week I’m watching another cartoon version made in 1988. It’s a Russian version.

John Wick chapter 4

Since The Continental is going to be coming on, I had decided I needed to see John Wick 4 before I watch the show. Just in case, they mention anything that happens in the fourth movie. The movie has Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne (love him), Lance Reddick, Ian McShane, Clancy Brown, George Georgiou, Bill Skarsgård, Donnie Yen, Aimée Kwan, Shamier Anderson, Hiroyuki Sanada, and
Rina Sawayama in it.

Big Warning: there is lots of violence of course and three sad parts.

At the end of chapter 3, Winston makes a deal the with the Marquis (who “represents” the high table that he would kill John so he could keep The Continental, so he shoots John and he falls off the balcony. He is saved by Bowery King.
In Chapter 4, he recovers and he goes to see Shimazu for advice. But the Marquis’ men finds him and the tracker finds him too. Marquis had hire a blind man named Caine to kill John. If he doesn’t, his daughter will be killed. Caine is old friends with John. Marquis’ men destroy Shimazu’s Continental. Caine causes the death of Shimazu. Winston tells John that he has a plan to get rid Marquis and he can get back in good graces with the high table. John has to duel Marquis. Before he can do that he has to be in good graces with his family and the family crest. He does do that and he even impresses the tracker by saving his dog. The tracker does have a deal with Marquis to track and kill John. The tracker does kill the man who was about to kill his dog. Marquis decides for Caine to kill John in the duel. John gets hit many times. But in the end, John kills Marquis. The high table gives him his freedom and gives Winston The Continental back. Then John “dies.”

I didn’t accept that John dies at the end. The rule that a person dies when you see blood out of their mouth didn’t happen. So I googled about it and I was right. There will be a chapter 5.

I loved this movie. Next week I’m watching Treasure Island 1990.

All of us Villains

I finished reading All of us Villains by Amanda Foody. This is the first book of a two book series.

Big Warning: there is lots of violence.

This book is like the Hunger Games. In this book, there are seven magical families. Every few years a tournament happens. They each pick a champion to be in the tournament. The prize is high magick which is the strongest magick. There is only one champion which means six has to die. Suddenly this tournament is different because a book comes out telling most of the secrets of the tournament. One family is blame for the book coming out, but it later revealed that that one family is not to be blamed. (Which was a surprise to me) The family that has won the most is the Lowe family. But that family has a deadly secret one that is every terrible. They sacrifice another family member in order to win. This tournament is different also because the government gets involve and decides one champion from one of the families. The sister of that family is mad, but then she tells to a guy who says the curse of the tournament can be destroyed. So she puts a sleeping spell on her sister and slices her ring finger and takes the champion ring. She is determined to destroy the tournament curse.  Just about everyone doesn’t believe her. Just one person does and that is her ex-boyfriend. The tournament also drops down Relics to help the players to win. Her idea is to give back the Relics to each of the landmarks. She “accidently” kills one player. She and her ex-boyfriend try out her theory and it works, but there is a problem. They end up killing another player. And the dead come back “alive.” And two players is slowly dying. They both end up getting revenge outside of the tournament which is against the rules which is a big problem. One of the players finds out the writer of the book and his big plan to destroy the seven magical families. She goes to try to stop the others from destroying the tournament.

I loved this book. Now I’m reading All of Our Demise by Amanda Foody. It is the second book in the book series.

Treasure Island (1934)

I watched the 1934 version of Treasure Island. I watched it on Youtube. It has Wallace Beery, Jackie Cooper, Otto Kruger, Lewis Stone, Nigel Bruce, Lionel Barrymore, Charles ‘Chic’ Sale, Charles McNaughton, and Dorothy Peterson.

Big Warning: there is some violence.

In this movie version, Jim Hawkins’ mother has a birthday party. Jim had made a cake for his mother, but he rudely tells a little girl he didn’t make it. Jim also is rude to his mother when giving a birthday speech. In this version, Jim meets Long John Silver when John is looking at the ship. (I think Jim likes Long John Silver instantly because he talks to him like an adult not like a kid.) In this version, Jim frees Long John Silver near the end. John knocks out Ben Gunn who is supposed to be lookout and then he makes his escape. He tells Jim that they will meet again.

I really liked this movie even though Jim was rude at the beginning. Next week I am taking a small break from the Treasure Island movies so I can watch John Wick 4. I will continue my Treasure Island movies after next week.
