Treasure Island (1972)

I did finally watch the 1972 version of Treasure Island. I watched it on Tubi on my computer. It has Orson Welles, Kim Burfield, Lionel Stander, Walter Slezak,
Ángel del Pozo, Rik Battaglia, Maria Rohm, Paul Muller, and Jean Lefebvre.

Big Warning: there is some violence.

In this movie version, Jim Hawkins narrates the story. Long John Silver is married to a Jamaican woman. He also has a monkey on the ship. Jim doesn’t get hurt like in the 1950 version.

I did like this movie. Yes some more versions, Yay! Next week it is the 1934 version of Treasure Island.

Treasure Island (1987)

I was going to watch the 1972 version of Treasure Island. I saved the movie on the Roku tv and pushed watch now. Well it wasn’t the right movie. It was an anime movie made in 1987. I watched it anyway. It has Erica Mendez, Richard Epcar, Dave Mallow, Jamieson K. Price, Joe Ochman, John Snyder, and Christopher Smith. It also is named Takarajima.

Big Warning: there is a little bit of violence

Since this was an anime, the drawing was a little crude where Jim Hawkins had stubs for hands. In this movie, Jim has a leopard as a companion which is really cool. The leopard goes on the trip to treasure island with them. Jim and the leopard went underwater to cut the anchor when Long Silver’s men take over the ship. The end was different from the 1950 version. Long John Silver does escape. Jim goes looking for him and he finds him when he older, but Long John Silver doesn’t recognize him.

I loved this movie. I did find the 1972 version on tubi so I will watch that version next week.

Weapons of Old Unbound Realm Vol. 2

I finished reading Weapons of Old The Unbound Realm Vol 2 by Kent Wayne. It is the sequel to A Door to Evermoor.

He writes crazy ads for his books on his blog called Dirty Sci-Fi Buddha. He also wrote a book series called Echo (which is awesome) and a book called Kor’Thank Barbarian Valley Girl (which was awesome too).

Big Warning: there is a little bit of violence and one sad part.

In this book, Evermoor has changed a lot. Jon and the elf princess find the others. They find out the evil queen has moved in with knights in different parts of Evermoor. The elf princess wants to find a rose blade which will help fight against the evil queen. Jon discovers that Lucky has changed too. Lucky is a thief. He has gotten into a dark mood since Jon last saw him. The other decide to go with Jon and the elf princess to find the rose blade. On their journey, they find out Evermoor is shifting. They also find a magic tower. Once they break in the tower, they find an ogre who has a sword in his skull. Jon talks him to removing the sword which helps the ogre remember who he is. The ogre was a detective, but when the wars happened in Evermoor, he wanted to forget everything and everyone so he locked himself in a tower and put the sword in his brain. The ogre decides to join the group for a bit. They make it to a harbor and Lucky steals some jewelry off a former pirate. Thankfully, the ogre knows the former pirate and she agrees to help them find a ship. On the ship, the crew decides to attack a ship that has the evil queen’s slaves. They take over that ship and gains some more crew and they meet a witch which becomes the pirate’s girlfriend. Jon was also given a task to find a magic glass. They do make it to place where the magic glass is. Jon gets the glass which is a mirror that also turns into a medallion. The former pirate and her girlfriend gets attacked by huge spiders when they leave. Jon tries to heal them. He almost doesn’t, but he finally relaxes enough to heal them. They now go on their way to where the rose blade is. The witch and the pirate can’t go with them. So Jon and the elf princess go. The elf princess has to answer riddles and she gets the blade. They then go to a village where a portal is opening up. The evil queen wants the portal open so she get to go anywhere. They go into battle, but Lucky betrays them all by giving Jon to the evil queen. She wants the magic glass. Jon tries to trick her, but it doesn’t work. Lucky dies. Jon gets really angry about Lucky dying and the betrayal. But he later settles down. He learns that he and the elf princess has to go back on Earth to find a man who will tell him how to open and use the magic glass.

I loved this book. I can’t wait for the third book. Yes, Kent Wayne has said there is a third book. Now I’m reading All of Us Villans by Amanda Foody.

Between God, the Devil and a Winchester

I watched Between God, the Devil, and a Winchester. It is also called God was in the West, too at One Time. It’s a Spaghetti Western made in 1968. I watched it on Tubi. It has Gilbert Roland, Richard Harrison, Folco Lulli, and Dominique Boschero in it.

Big Warning: of course, there is violence.

In this movie, a colonel is running from who has a eye patch. The man with the eye patch is after a treasure map. The treasure map leads to some gold. The colonel goes in an inn. He asks for a room and tells the boy about the man with the eye patch and hides the treasure map. The eye patch man comes to the inn and the colonel shoots him. Then other men come to inn and the colonel that hid the treasure map jumps out a window and is dead. The men tear up the inn and set it on fire. Maria, a woman who worked at the inn is in love with a preacher named Father Pat Jordan. She is attacked by the men. The boy is afraid she will burn in the fire. Another man named Uncle Pink is a cook at the inn. The boy goes back in the inn to get the treasure map and he gives it to the preacher. He asks a wagon master to take them to the place where the treasure is hidden. Wagon master agrees to do it, but he does set up a mutiny which causes a gun fight over the treasure. The preacher goes for supplies to find out the wagon master had set up the whole thing and he leads them to the treasure. The wagon master takes the treasure and the boy goes with him in the sunset.

I liked this movie. Next week I’m watching Treasure Island (1972).

Long John Silver’s Return to Treasure Island

I watched Long John Silver’s Return to Treasure Island. I watched it on Tubi. It’s also on Freevee. It is the sequel to Treasure Island. No, I haven’t read the book. This movie has Robert Newton, Connie Gilchrist, Lloyd Berrell, George Simpson-Lyttle, Kit Taylor, Harvey Adams, Muriel Steinbeck, and Thora Smith.

Big Warning: there is a little bit of violence.

In this movie, Long John Silver discovers that Capt. Mendoza’s men had captured the governor’s ship. The governor’s daughter and Jim Hawkins were on that ship. So Long John Silver goes to the governor to tell him that he can help rescue his daughter. He does rescue the governor’s daughter and Jim Hawkins, but his real goal was to get a medallion that Jim Hawkins has. The medallion is a clue to some more treasure on Treasure Island. Jim Hawkins makes a pact with Long John Silver if he could come along, he can have the medallion. So Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver sneak off. But then the captain of the ship finds out of the mutiny that Long John Silver is planning from Jim. They are left off on an island that Capt. Mendoza owns. Jim gets kidnapped again by Capt. Mendoza. Long John Silver saves him again and gets the treasure. A woman named Purity Pinker owns an inn. She wants to marry Long John Silver so they can adopt Jim Hawkins legally. But Long John Silver gets away a the end.

I liked this movie. Next week I’m watching Between God, the Devil and a Winchester. It’s a western.

Treasure Island

I watched Treasure Island. It was the 1950 version made by Disney. It is based on the book by Robert Louis Stevenson. I never read the book. It has Bobby Driscoll, Robert Newton, Walter Fitzgerald, Denis O’Dea, Finlay Currie, David Davies, and Francis De Wolff in it.

Big Warning: there is some violence.

In this movie, Jim Hawkins is a boy who is helping his mother in her inn. A captain named Billy Bones is staying at the diner. He is sick and Jim is looking after him. One of his old crew comes looking for him and gives him a black spot. A black spot means they are coming after him. He gives Jim a treasure map which is what the crew wants. The treasure map leads to a Caribbean Island. Captain Bones’ doctor, Jim Hawkins, and a squire get on a ship to sail to this island. Long John Silver is the cook with his old crew. He says he was on sailor on another ship, but he was actually a pirate. He and his old crew take over the ship and try to find the treasure. Jim gets caught in the middle. In the end, Jim helps Long John Silver to escape. Jim doesn’t get any treasure at the end.

I didn’t like the boy who played Jim Hawkins. He didn’t act too well. I did like the man who played Long John Silver. But I did like the movie. Next week I’m watching Long John Silver’s Return to Treasure Island. It’s the sequel made in 1954 made by Disney.
