The Return of the King

I finished reading The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is the last book of the Lord of The rings book series. Yes, I did watch the movie.

Big Warning: there is lots of violence (of course because it’s a war) and some sad parts.

Since most people have either read or seen the movies, here’s a short summery:
After the group defeat Saruman, one of the hobbits gets pulled to look into the magical ball. Gandalf gets worried so he decided to take that hobbit somewhere safe for the time being. During their stay there, the steward becomes crazy (because he has a magic ball too) and tries to himself and son (who is hurt from battle). Gandalf takes over in the battle. Meanwhile the other hobbit becomes a squire to a king. When they join in the battle, the hobbit wants to join too. But he is turned down until the king daughter brings him into battle. Aragon decides to journey into the path of death to get the undead to help in the battle. They do and the battle is won. Aragon also challenges Sauron by saying he is the king. Then Sam does find Frodo and he helps him up the mountain to throw the ring into the fire. But Gollum fights for the ring. Gollum and the ring fall in the fire. Everyone is reunited again. Aragon accepts the crown and they go visit their friends one last time on the journey back to the Shire.

Differences between book and movie:
1. Gollum doesn’t pit Frodo against Sam.
2. They go back to see their friends near the end of the book.

I liked this book. I’m reading next The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Noah

I watched Noah yesterday. I had taped it when it was on Syfy, but I watched it on Pluto TV. It has Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, Logan Lerman, and Douglas Booth in it.

Warning: there is some violence.

In this movie, Noah is given a sign by God to build an ark because a big flood was going to happen. I know this movie is not biblically correct, but it was an interesting movie. There are other religions that do talk about the flood and a Noah. The tv show Manifest (love that show) had talked about a Noah that actually asked God to bring on the flood because people were so evil.

Next week I’m watching Spotlight.

The Raven (2007)

I watched The Raven (2007) yesterday. Like I said I had to watch it on the computer. It has Andre Velts, Joy Lucelle De Gee, Nicholas Wickstrom, Traverse Le Goff, Brian Mitchell, and Colin Sutcliffe in it.

Big Warning: there is lots of violence and gay sex scenes.

First off this was a really bad movie. It did have an interesting twist, but the acting was really bad and the summary is all wrong. The summary goes that a masquerade ball happens and a masked killer shows up killing them one by one. There is a masked killer, but it really wasn’t a ball. And the guests weren’t costumes. The invitations weren’t even sent. And the masked killer gets away with the murders. He supposedly puts the blame of the murders on someone else. But he stabs the person who supposedly did the murders.

I didn’t like this movie. The director of this movie did make two other Poe movies. I may watch them. Next week I’m watching Noah.

The Road

Last week instead of watching The Raven (2007) (it was no longer on Roku. I did watch it on the computer this week. I will post about it next.), I watched The Road. I had taped The Road when it was on Showtime, but my mother and I watched it on Pluto TV. It has Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Robert Duvall, Molly Parker, and Michael Kenneth Williams in it.

Big Warning: there is some violence and one big sad part.

In this movie, A man and his son is traveling south to the coast. It is the end of days where the food supply is pretty much gone. People are becoming cannibals. They do find some food here and there. They do make it to the coast.

The ending kinda sucked. I don’t know if the book ending is the same. Next week I’m watching Noah.

The Raven (1963)

I watched The Raven yesterday. I had seen some of it before, but I don’t think I had seen all of it until now. I watched it on Tubi. It has Vincent Price (love him), Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, Hazel Court, Olive Sturgess, and Jack Nicholson (love him).

In this movie, Dr. Craven gets a visitor of a raven who can talk! The raven is actually a magician who was turned into a raven during a duel. He helps the magician with turning turning him back into a human. The magician tells him that Dr. Scarabus turned him into one and that Dr. Scarabus has Craven’s wife. Craven’s wife Lenore (and nevermore) was supposedly dead. But she later admits someone’s body is the casket. She had left him for Scarabus. Scarabus was planning to take Craven’s powers. Craven wins the duel.

I loved this movie. Next week I’m watching the last The Raven version (2007) (Nevermore).

The Two Towers

I finished reading The Two Towers by J.R. R. Tolkien. It is the second (third if you count The Hobbit as the first) book in the Lord of The Rings book series. There is a movie based on the book and yes, I have seen it.

Big Warning: there is some violence.

Since most people have either read the books series or seen the movie, here’s a short summary.

The ring company is broken. The journey is three parts. The captured hobbits, the hunter tracking them, and the ring bearer. The captured hobbits escapes into a forest with talking and walking trees. The hunters tracking them lose them until Gandalf shows up. He was grey and now white. Gandalf tells them about where the escaped hobbits went to. They end up saving a kingdom with Gandalf’s help. The escaped hobbits become part of a war with the trees and Saruman. Then they found out Gandalf is now back. The ring bearer and his friend has help with Gollum to make it to Mondor.

Here’s differences between book and movie:

  1. One big difference is in the movie, the escaped hobbits has to talk the trees into starting the war. In the book, they don’t, Treebeard and the trees decided on their own to go to war.
  2. There is no love story. Aragon doesn’t mention his age in the book.
  3. Gandalf doesn’t know how Saruman is talking to the enemy in the book until he finds the ball. In the movie he already knew.
  4. Some of the events are messed up in the movie.
  5. Aragon isn’t the one hurt in the attack in the book. In the book it is the dwarf who gets hurt.

I liked this book. Now I’m reading The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien.

The month of June

Happy June!!

Today would have been my uncle’s birthday. He died back in February. He died from Covid. I am going to give the cats treats later.

Tomorrow would have been my other uncle’s birthday. I will be giving the cats treats to celebrate.

June 13th my mother and I will be getting our second shot.

The Raven (2012)

I watched The Raven yesterday. I had taped it on Showtime, but I had to watch it on the computer. It has John Cusack, Alice Eve, Luke Evans, Brendon Glesson, Sam Hazeldine, Kevin McNally, and John Warnaby in it.

Warning: there is some violence and a sad part.

In this movie, Edgar Allen Poe helped a detective on some murder cases. The murder cases were set up like the stories written by Poe. The killer kidnapped Poe’s girlfriend and ends up poisons Poe. The girlfriend is saved by Poe, but Poe dies.

Even though it’s a fictional story, I loved this movie. Next week I’m watching The Raven (1963).
