A Thousand Words

I watched A Thousand Words yesterday. I had taped it on Ovation, but I had to watch it on the computer. It has Eddie Murphy (love him), Kerry Washington, Emanuel Ragsdale, Lou Saliba, Cliff Curtis, John Gatins, and Clark Duke in it.

Big Warning: there is a sad part.

In this movie, a man named Jack McCall is a publishing agent. He talks nonstop (I actually knew a guy who is like that.). Jack pitches a job for his company about promoting a book written by a spiritual guru. He meets the spiritual guru. He nabs the job offer. While there he accidently marks a tree with his blood. He finds out a day later that the tree magically appears in his backyard. He asks the guru about the tree and the guru says the tree is a legend about a monk. Every time Jack talks, a leaf walks from the tree. Jack thinks if all the leaves fall, he will die. He gets sick too. He doesn’t die because he learns inner peace and the tree blooms beautiful flowers.

I loved this movie. Next week I’m watching The Raven (2012).

The Raven (1943)

Note: Last week I had said I was going to watch A Thousand Words. Well, I found out that Pluto TV has the Spanish version of that movie. The Roku tv had the subtitles in Spanish too. I will be watching that movie next week. So I decided to watch The Raven (1943). Well, this movie is in French. The Roku tv didn’t have subtitles. I do know a little of French, but not alot. I watch it anyway and I read the wikipedia page to find out what happened. I did find a site that has subtitles a few minutes ago.

I watched The Raven on TV Time. It has Pierre Fresnay, Ginette Leclerc, Micheline Francey, Héléna Manson, Pierre Larquey, and Sylvie.

Big Warning: there is some violence.

On IMDB, it says that the screenplay was based on a true story. In this movie, a doctor and others receive mysterious letters. The letters are signed with the name The Raven/Crow. The letters accuse of Doctor Germain of having an affair and of being abortionist. One of the letters caused a man to commit suicide. Several people were suspects, but in the end it is shown who the real letter writer was.

I liked this movie. Next week I will watch A Thousand Words on the computer.

The Fellowship of the Ring

I finished reading The Fellowship of The Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is actually the second book. I didn’t know that The Hobbit was the first book. I will be reading it after I read the next two books. There is a movie that is based on the book. I did watch the movie again.

Big Warning: there is some violence and a sad part.

Here’s a quick summary of the book: A hobbit named Frodo inherits a ring. It’s a special ring that was made by a evil wizard. If given the ring back to the evil wizard, he can control all races. The ring also allows a person to be invisible. Frodo ends up having the task of going to a lake of fire to destroy the ring.

Here are some differences between the book and the movie:

  1. In the movie, the company picked to go, but in the book the king of Rivendell picked how to go.
  2. In the movie, the good wizard told Frodo about Gollum following them. In the book, Frodo learns later on after the wizard is dead.
  3.  In the movie, Frodo is only one who looks in the mirror, but Sam also looks in the mirror in the book.

I liked the book and the movie. Now I’m reading The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Hereditary

I watched Hereditary a few weeks ago. It has Toni Collette, Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, and Ann Dowd in it.

Warning: there are some disturbing scenes and a big twist at the end.

In this movie, a woman named Annie grieves after her mother dies. Her mother supposedly had mental problems. At her funeral, she says that her mother had a secret life and many people were strangers there at her funeral. Annie is a miniature designer and she is making miniatures of her life. Annie lies to her husband and goes to a grieving group. She talks about how she doesn’t want to put more stress to her family. Then she begs her son to take his younger sister to a party. He does and he gets high and he accidently kills his sister. Annie meets Joan who tells her about seances. Annie does a sĂ©ance with her family which causes many strange things to happen. Then Annie discovers the truth of her mother’s secret life.

I liked this movie. Yes, there is a link to Midsommar with this movie.

Crimson Peak

I watched Crimson Peak a few weeks ago. My mother wanted me to see it. It is on Netflix. It has Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Jim Beaver, and Doug Jones in it.

Big Warning: there is some violence.

In this movie, a woman named Edith is a writer in the 18th Century. She is writing a love story with ghosts in it. But she herself is a medium. She is haunted by her mother’s ghost who keeps warning about a place called Crimson Peak. She meets a man named Thomas and falls in love with him. Her father doesn’t approve it and he finds out that Thomas was already married. Then Edith’s father was murdered. So she marries Thomas and moves into a broken down house with him and his “sister.” It turns out that the broken down house is haunted and Edith gets suddenly sick. She learns alot about Thomas and his “sister” and learns the broken down house was named Crimson Peak. In the end, she does get away from the house and the “sister.”

I did like this movie.

Elizabeth

I watched Elizabeth yesterday. I watched it on Peacock. It has Cate Blanchett, Terence Rigby, Christopher Eccleston, Kathy Burke, Amanda Ryan, Fanny Ardant, Geoffrey Rush, Vincent Cassel, Joseph Fiennes, and Daniel Craig in it.

Warning: there is some violence (of course because it’s history)

This movie is about Elizabeth I. Although I found out on IMDB that this movie does have historical problems. I thought it was a good movie anyway. I didn’t know there was an attempt to take Elizabeth’s life. I knew about Mary Queen of Scots attempt on her life and Queen Victoria’s attempt on her life.

I liked this movie. Next week I’m watching A Thousand Words.

Django (2017)

I watched yesterday Django. I watched it on Tubi. It has Reda Kateb, Cécile de France, Bea Palya, Bimbam Merstein, Gabriel Mirété, Johnny Montreuil, and Jan Henrik Stahlberg in it.

Big Warning: there is some violence (of course because it is WWII)

This movie is a true story of Jean Reinhardt. He went by the nickname Django. He was a jazz/swing musician. He had damaged his hand in a fire, but he could still play his guitar. During the WWII, the Germans wanted him. But he did eventually got away. He died in 1953.

Here’s some info on him: https://www.britannica.com/biography/Django-Reinhardt
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Django_Reinhardt

I loved the movie. Next week I’m either watching Elizabeth or The Raven (1943). Also next week I will post about Hereditary and Crimson Peak.
