Down the Shore

I watched Down the Shore yesterday. I taped it when it was on Starz. It has Famke Janssen, James Gandolfini, John Magaro, Maria Dizzia, Edoardo Costa, and Joseph Pope in it.

Warning: there is some of talk of rape and incest. Warning 2: it’s sad.

In this movie, a man named Jacques go to New Jersey to tell a man named Bailey that his sister had died. Jacques said he was married to Bailey’s sister before she had died. He also was looking for work at Bailey’s amusement park. Later on Jacques learns about what happened to Bailey’s sister when she was younger and how Bailey got a huge amount of money. Jacques helps Mary with her husband who beats her and tells Bailey to take the money and leave.

I sorta liked the movie. Next week I’m watching Gosford Park.

Bishop’s Pawn

I finished listening to Bishop’s Pawn by Steve Berry.  It is the thirteen book of the Cotton Malone book series. There are fifteen books so far in the main book series.

Big Warning: there is some violence.

In this book, Cotton Malone tells about his first mission as a intelligence officer. He was asked by Stephanie Nelle to retrieve a rare coin that was at the bottom of the ocean. But the case he was at the bottom of the ocean. He almost gets killed down there and he finds out the case holds documents. He is asked not to read the documents, but he does anyway. He learns the documents deal with the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. The rare coin is payment of the files.  He tries to save a man, his daughter, and her husband which becomes a failure. Cotton ends up learning the secret that lead to the assassination and he ends up deciding to keep that secret a secret.

I loved this book. I do think Cotton should have kept the evidence. Now I’m reading Mary Poppins Opens the Door by P. L. Travers.

What’s Eating Gilbert Grape

I watched What’s Eating Gilbert Grape yesterday. It is based on a book by Peter Hedges. (I want to read the book.) I taped the movie when it was on Starz. It has Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Juliette Lewis, Mary Steenburgen, Darlene Cates, Laura Harrington, Mary Kate Schellhardt, Kevin Tighe, John C. Reilly, and Penelope Branning in it.

Big Warning: there is talk of suicide.

In this movie, a man named Gilbert Grape has to take care of his family after his dad commits suicide and his mother has gotten obese. His little brother has special needs. Being the head of the household causes him to lose it and he meets a new girl who came into town who causes him to dream about the future.

I sorta liked this movie. Next week I’m watching Down the Shore.

Serpentine

I finished reading Serpentine by Laurell K Hamilton. It is the twenty-sixth book of the Anita Blake book series. It is the latest book in the book series.  There is supposed to be a new book coming out in August.

NOTE: This is the last book I’m going to read of the Anita Blake book series. Yes, I made the mistake of seeing what the next book will be like and the summary does sound good, but what the summary doesn’t tell is why I want to quit reading this book series. I’m tired of the weird multiple sex (yes I can skip the parts which I have done with the previous books) and the emotions of Anita. Sometimes her emotions bring down the book. My character now is Edward/Ted, not Anita which is the main character.

Big Warning: there are two sex scenes, some gross parts, and some violence.

In this book, Anita goes down to Florida for Edward/Ted and Donna’s wedding. One of the bridesmaids goes crazy threatening to tell Donna’s little girl that Edward/Ted was a cheating on Donna. He is not cheating on her. The bridesmaid stabs Donna’s son. Then a woman goes missing and they try to find her. But before they do another woman goes missing too. One of the police officers uses magic to try to get one of Anita’s boyfriends to confess to the crime. Then a body of the first woman is found. It was killed by something not quite human. Anita gets the idea to use her boyfriend as a scent animal to find the other woman which they do. Then two other women go missing. They track them down and find out the police officer who used magic was involved with the kidnapping. They find out that a big huge monster is the one who kill the first girl in order to do a ritual to cure a snake curse.

I did like this book. Next I’m listening to The Bishop’s Pawn by Steve Berry. It is the thirteen book of the Cotton Malone book series.

13 Sins

I watched 13 Sins yesterday. It is a remake of a movie called 13 Beloved. I taped 13 Sins when it was on Starz. It has Mark Webber, Devon Graye, Tom Bower, Rutina Wesley, and Ron Perlman in it.

Big Warning: there is some violence and gross parts.

In this movie, a man named Eliot loses his job, finds out that he has to move in his brother and father with him and his pregnant wife all in one day. He gets a phone call from someone saying if he competes 13 tasks, he gets to keep 6.2 million dollars. As the tasks gets more terrible, he decides to try to save people, but of course it doesn’t work. He does complete the tasks, but loses the money than loses his sanity.

I did like this movie. Next week I’m watching What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?

Kiss the Dead

I finished reading Kiss The Dead by Laurell K Hamilton. It is the twenty-first book of the Anita Blake book series. There are twenty-six books in the book series so far.

Warning: there is some violence and two sex scenes.

In this book, Anita Blake is integrating a vampire who kidnapped a girl. The vampire leads the police into a trap. Two policemen are killed. Anita invokes a warrant for the vampires who killed the policemen. The girl is saved. Supposedly the girl wanted to be a vampire, but refused at the last moment. Plus the vampires didn’t kill the policemen. It was another vampire who did it. Some of vampires get away and Anita scares a vampire into telling where the others are. They do find some of vampires. One vampire uses vampire powers to control one the policemen and Anita saves two lives. Anita finds out who is really behind the killing of the police officers. The vampire claims he is innocent of the killings because he just wanted vampires to be free from any master. But the vampires had other plans and they wanted to kill Anita and Jean-Claude. One was to bomb a club owned by Jean-Claude. But Anita was able to get the wereanimals to attack the bomber and Anita killed the bomber.

I sorta liked this book. Now I’m reading Serpentine by Laurell K Hamilton. It is the twenty-sixth book of the Anita Blake book series.

Things to do in Denver when You’re Dead (movie)

I watched Things to Do in Denver when You’re Dead yesterday. I taped it when it was on Starz. It has Andy Garcia, Christopher Lloyd, William Forsythe, Bill Nunn, Treat Williams, Jack Warden, Steve Buscemi, and Christopher Walken in it.

Warning: there is some violence and it is very sad.

In this movie, Jimmy The Saint is asked to see The Man with the Plan about doing a job. Jimmy says he needs a crew of four other guys. Then the job goes awry and they have a death sentence on them. The Man with the Plan puts a hit on all of them and kills them one by one.

I didn’t like the ending, but it’s a okay movie. Next week I’m watching 13 Sins.

Wounded (novella)

I finished reading Wounded by Laurell K Hamilton. It is a novella of the Anita Blake book series. It comes between Dead Ice and Crimson Death.

This novella is actually an outtake of the book Dead Ice. In the book Dead Ice, Anita asks her former teacher of raising the dead on a case about zombies. Manny’s daughter Connie is engaged to married.  Connie, her fiance, and her little brother get kidnapped by a scary guy. Connie’s brother gets shot in the stomach. In Wounded, Connie gets married and Anita and her two boyfriends attend the wedding. At the reception, Micah talks to Connie’s brother.  Micah later on tells Anita and Tomas’ other sister that Tomas is hurting mentally and needs help. So Anita and her two boyfriends talk to Tomas about doing the PT he needs and hitting the gym will really help him become a survivor and not a victim.

I did like this novella. Next I’m reading Kiss the Dead by Laurell K Hamilton. It is the twenty-first book of the Anita Blake book series.
