Mary Poppins Comes Back

I finished listening to Mary Poppins Comes Back by Pamela Lyndon Travers. It is the second book of the Mary Poppins book series.

This book is not like the newest movie. The children aren’t adults yet. Michael Banks turns six in this book. Isabelle is born in this book. She is the fifth Banks kid. Although there is two scenes that are in newest movie and this book. Mary Poppins comes back riding on a kite and the balloon scene near the end of the newest movie.

In this book, like I said Mary Poppins comes back riding on a kite. She is still rude to children. She takes them on wild adventures. She leaves again leaving them a locket with their pictures in it.

I did enjoy this book. I may get some books from this book series later on. Now I’m reading Echo Volume 4: The Edge of Darkness by Kent Wayne.

Cooties

I watched Cooties yesterday. I had taped it when Cinemax was a free preview. It has Elijah Wood, Rainn Wilson, Alison Pill, Jack McBrayer, Nasim Pedrad, Ian Brennan, Jorge Garcia, Cooper Roth, Peter Kwong, and Armani Jackson in it.

Warning: it has violence and many gross parts. Warning 2: No real ending.

In this movie, chicken nuggets gets infected by a virus. Children in an elementary school in a town called Fort Chicken gets infected with the virus. It turns them into savages. Some teachers end up being survivors and finding out the virus affects people who had puberty in different way.

It was an ok movie. Next week I’m watching The Legend of Tarzan.

A Slightly Tilting Planet

I finished listening to A Slightly Tilting Planet by Madeleine L’Engle. It is the third book of the Time Quinet book series. (I skipped the second book, but I might go back to listen to it.)

Warning: there is a little bit of violence.

In this book, Meg is older (around 24 or 25 years old) and she’s married to Calvin. She’s also pregnant. Charles Wallace is older too. He’s 15 years old. Their father gets a phone call from the president about a mad man is calling for a nuclear war. Calvin’s mother tells Charles Wallace needs to remember a rune and to save everyone. Charles Wallace thinks he can’t do on his own. He meets a unicorn (so cool. I love unicorns) who takes him back in time to find out who the mad man is (I was wrong about who he is. I was thinking it was Mrs. O’Keefe’s brother. It wasn’t). He changes the past to stop the nuclear war from happening.

I loved, loved this book. It’s an awesome book. Now I’m listening to Mary Poppins Comes Back by Pamela Lyndon Travers. It is the second book of the Mary Poppins book series.

The House

I watched The House yesterday. I taped it when HBO was a free preview. It has Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, Nick Kroll, Jason Mantzoukas, Ryan Simpkins, Cedric Yarbrough, and Kyle Kinane in it.

Warning: there is some violence and it’s not funny.

In this movie, a couple wants to send their daughter to college. Their town was giving away a scholarship, but the town vote to have a town pool instead. They couldn’t borrow money either. Their friend suggests they should be co-founders of an underground casino. They end up getting enough money to send their daughter to college.

Even though it wasn’t funny, it still was a cute movie. I did enjoy it. Next week I’m watching Cooties.

Salem’s Lot (movie)

did watch Salem’s Lot last week. It is loosely based on the book by Stephen King. It has David Soul, James Mason, Lance Kerwin, Bonnie Bedelia, Lew Ayres, Julie Cobb, George Dzundza, Ed Flanders, Geoffrey Lewis, Barney McFadden, Kenneth McMillan, Fred Willard, James Gallery, and Reggie Nalder in it.

Warning: there is a lot of violence and gory scenes.

Quick Summary: The movie is about a town called Salem’s Lot which gets overtaken by vampires.

Here are the differences between the book and movie: 1. The characters names are different. Matt Burke is James Burke, and Floyd Tibbets is Ned Tebbets.

2. The doctor in the book is not Susan’s father. The doctor in the book is Dr. Cody.

3. In the book, Larry Crockett wasn’t having an affair with Bonnie Sawyer. In the book, it was an electrician.

4. The doctor dies on the stairs in the cellar. In the movie, Susan’s father gets impaled upstairs.

5. In the book, Mark kills Straker before his parents die.

6. In the book, Ben kills Susan before he kills Barlow. In the movie, he kills Barlow, then Susan finds him at the end of the movie.

7. All the vampires in the book have red eyes. In the movie, they have greenish eyes.

Even though there were differences, I did like the movie.

Salem’s Lot (book)

I finally finished reading Salem’s Lot by Stephen King. I wanted to read this book because it was mentioned in the Dark Tower series and one of the characters of the Dark Tower was Father Callahan from the book Salem’s Lot.

Warning: there is some violence and gory scenes.

In this book, a man named Ben Mears comes back to Salem’s lot to write a book on a house on top of a hill in Salem’s Lot. He wanted to buy the house, but he discovers the house was already sold to two men. Those two men also opened up an antique furniture store. Then a boy goes missing and a dog gets killed. The boy becomes the first made vampire in the town. He then makes his brother a vampire. Ben, Dr. Cody, and Mark Petrie become vampire hunters. Ben and Mark end up burning the town, but some of the vampires remain.

I really liked this book. Now I’m listening to A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeleine L’Engle. It is the third book of the Time Quintet (A Wrinkle in Time) book series. I’m skipping the second book.

Morgan

I watched Morgan yesterday. I had taped it when HBO was a free preview. It has Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rose Leslie, Michael Yare,Toby Jones, Chris Sullivan, Boyd Holbrook, Michelle Yeoh, Vinette Robinson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Paul Giamatti.

Warning: there is some violence. Warning 2: it is predictable.

In this movie, a bioengineered girl named Morgan attacks a scientist named Kathy. The company behind the project sends a risk-management specialist named Lee Weathers. Lee attends a psych evaluation which turns deadly. (in my opinion, he pushed her too hard. I think her killing the deer was taken out of context. She was giving it mercy because it was hurt.) Lee follows orders and tries to kill Morgan.

Like I said it was predictable. Even though it was, I did like the movie. Next week I’m watching The House.

The Rendezvous

I watched The Rendezvous yesterday. The movie is loosely based on a book by Sarah Isaias. I haven’t read the book. I taped it when Showtime was a free preview. It has Stana Katic, Raza Jaffrey, Alfonso Bassave, Meg Cionni, Glenn Fleshler, and Brett Weer in it.

Warning: there is some violence.

In this movie, a woman named Rachel is a Jewish doctor. She learns from a Muslim State Department employee (by the description of the book he’s a poet), Jake, that her brother is dead. Her brother is like Indiana Jones. He was trying to find a scroll that tells more than the Dead Sea Scrolls (by the description of the book it’s a poem). Rachel and Jake find out who killed her brother and they take the scroll to be displayed for the world to see.

Even though there were some unbelievable parts, I did enjoy watching the movie. Tomorrow I’m going to watch Salem’s Lot. I’m almost through reading it. Next Monday I’m watching Morgan.
