My birthday weekend

I was sick on my birthday. I still have a cough, but no fever. I didn’t get to go anywhere for my birthday.

My mother did bring me a cake. It’s really good. She gave some coloring books and colored pencils. My best friend gave me a candle. When we celebrate our birthdays together, there will be a second gift.

Hopefully taking Theraflu tonight will take away my coughing for good so I can at least get to celebrate a little bit soon.

Man of Tai Chi

I watched  Man of Tai Chi yesterday. It was one of the martial art movies I taped when I had some movie channels that were previews. It has Tiger Hu Chen, Keanu Reeves, Karen Mok, Hai Yu, Qing Ye, and Simon Yam.

Warning: there is some violence.

Man of Tai Chi is about a man of Tai Chi. lol It’s about a man named Tiger who tries to show the world that Tai Chi can be used in fighting. Another man named Donaka owns an underground fighting club. He sees how good Tiger is and recruits him into the club. But later on, Tiger wants out when he learns that he has to fight to the death. He also learns that it’s much more about fighting.

I think Keanu Reeves represented the devil. I liked the movie. Next week I’m watching The Bronze.

This weekend

Tomorrow is my birthday!!  I will be 38 tomorrow.

Last weekend my best-friend was supposed to come by to celebrate my birthday since she might have to work tomorrow. But she was worried about getting sick with the new strain of flu going around. We decided to celebrate my birthday with hers in April.

But then on Monday night I started coughing. I have been taking medicine and drink alot of water. Last night I didn’t cough at all. And this morning I only coughed a few times. My nose though is giving problems. I do feel a little better. I also been watching the Olympics which also helped me feel better.

My mother is supposed to be coming by tomorrow too.

The Patriot Threat

I finished listening to The Patriot Threat by Steve Berry. It is the 10th book of the Cotton Malone book series. There are 13 books in the series.

Warning: there is some violence and some sad parts.

This book deals with Teddy Roosevelt and Andrew Mellon. It also deals with the 16 Amendment and a debt that has never been paid.

In this book, Cotton is sent on a mission to look after a man who had documents that were stolen. The man was to met another man on a cruise. But Cotton orders were changed to go after some stolen money. The money was blown up. Another man with his daughter was on that same cruise. They were after the documents that were stolen. The documents dealt with an American secret that could destroy America. The documents were stolen again by the third man. The third man killed his daughter and Cotton killed him. Stephanie Neil, Cotton’s old boss, destroys the secret forever.

I love this book. I do hope Cotton gets back Ms. Vitt though. Now I’m reading The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands by Stephen King.

You can find this book at Wordery.com, Downpour.com, Amazon.com, and Kobo.com.

Money Monster

I watched  Money Monster yesterday. I had taped it when some movie channels were free previews. It has George Clooney, Julia Roberts (she’s so pretty), Jack O’Connell, Dominic West, Caitriona Balfe, Giancarlo Esposito, Christopher Denham, and Lenny Venito.

Warning: there is a little bit violence and one sad part at the end.

In this movie, a man named Lee Gates is a wall street tv host. He gives tips on the stock market. Another man named Kyle decides to take the tv show over. He even puts on a bomb vest on the host. He later tells Lee that the bomb is a fake. Kyle wants to know what happened to 8 million dollars that one company had “lost.” The company kept saying it was a computer glitch. Later on, the truth came out and the company was investigated for fraud.

Even though it ended in a sad way, I liked the movie. Next week I’m watching Man of Tai Chi. I had taped alot of martial arts movies also.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (movie)

I did watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower on Thursday. It is based on the book by Stephen Chbosky. The movie was directed and written by him too. The movie has Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Dylan McDermott, Ezra Miller,
Nina Dobrev, Kate Walsh, Johnny Simmons, Paul Rudd, Joan Cusack, and Zane Holtz.

Warning: there is some sad parts.

There weren’t many differences between the book and movie. One was that Brad calls Patrick a bad name and that’s what started the fight in the book. It doesn’t mention that Charlie was in a fight before. Charlie goes to a doctor before he is in the hospital at the end. He calls his teacher Bill in the book.

I did like the movie. I can’t say if I liked the book or movie best. I’m waiting on my next book to movie book so next week (maybe on Sunday) I’m watching Money Monster. I had taped the movie when I had some movie channels were previews.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

I finished listening to The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. There is a movie based on the book. I did watch it.

Warning: there is some sad parts.

Before I begin my summary I should say I thought this was going to be a dumb book, but it’s not. I love the book. And I think Charlie has a high functioning autism.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is about a boy named Charlie. He is writing to a friend. (at first, I thought it was a diary until he said he mailed the letter) He tells this friend that his best-friend killed himself. Then he tells the friend that his aunt died too. He later says she was in a car wreck and he thinks he was the cause of the wreck because he handed her keys to her and she told him she was getting him another birthday present. Charlie later meets a guy named Patrick and his sister, Sam. Charlie falls for Sam, but she is love with another guy. He learns also that Patrick is gay. Charlie goes with one of their friends, but he is too polite to tell her that he wants to break up. He does break up with her in a bad way. Sam also breaks up with her boyfriend because he was cheating on her. When Sam and Charlie do finally be together, he realizes something that happened to him that changes everything.

Like I said I loved this book. Now I’m listening to The Patriot Threat by Steve Berry. It is the 10th book of the Cotton Malone book series.

You can get this book at Wordery.com, Downpour.com, Amazon.com, and Kobo.com.

The Other Boleyn Girl (movie)

I watched The Other Boleyn Girl yesterday. It is based on the book by Philippa Gregory. It has Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Eric Bana, Jim Sturgess, Mark Rylance, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ana Torrent, and Eddie Redmayne in it.

Warning: there is some disturbing scenes and one rape scene.

There are some differences between the movie and book:

1. There was no rape scene in the book. Henry doesn’t rape Anne. But she does tease him a lot.
2. There is no incest part. There are some incest hints though.
3. Mary has two kids by Henry. Not one.
4. Mary doesn’t see Henry when Anne is about to be beheaded. She does see her father to plea for him to save both her brother and sister.

I liked the movie even with the differences. I would like to see the tv movie someday which was on BBC. Thursday I’m watching The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

The Other Boleyn Girl

I finished reading The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. It is the third book of her Boleyn book series. I haven’t read the other books yet, but I do plan on reading some more of her books someday. There is a tv movie and a movie based on this book. I did watch the movie.

Warning: there is some hints of incest and some disturbing things.

Before I begin my summary, I need to say at first I really did think Anne Boleyn could have been guilty of the charges against her. But now I have changed my mind. I’ll put my theory below my summary.

The Other Boleyn Girl is about the other Boleyn girl, Mary Boleyn. Mary Boleyn is the sister of Anne Boleyn. Mary was married at a very young age and then her uncle and father suggest for her to be mistress of King Henry VIII.  The queen couldn’t bore a son. Mary does have a son and daughter by the king. But while she gave birth to her son, Anne stepped in to keep the king’s mind on Mary, but Anne got greedy and stole the king from her. She made the king annul his marriage to the queen. Anne also “took” Mary’s son away from her. Anne became queen. But she was greedy and thought everyone was against her and for the queen.  Mary thinks Anne may have poisoned and caused the death of some people. Later on, mobs on the city wanted Anne dead because she had pushed the queen out. Anne did have a daughter who will later become Queen Elizabeth. Mary does go back to her husband for a short while until he dies of a horrible sickness. She marries in secret to another man who is very good to her. She has two kids by him. Anne has three miscarriages. The last miscarriage was a deformed baby. This led to her charge which was incest and treason. Anne and her brother were beheaded.

My theory changed after I was reading a blog yesterday. One person commented that back then alcohol was a big thing and no one knew the dangers of drinking while pregnant like today.  It can cause deformities and miscarriages. So I don’t Anne was guilty of incest.

I did like the book. Tomorrow I’m listening to The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I will watch the movie on Thursday.

You can get this book at Wordery.com, Amazon.com, Kobo.com, and Downpour.com.

The Splintered Icon

I finished reading  The Splintered Icon by Bill Napier. It was also published as Shattered Icon in the UK.  I bought the book a few years ago because one of the quotes said it was like Dan Brown’s books.

Warning: the book is a little slow at first.  Warning 2: there is some violence.

The Splintered (Shattered) Icon is about an icon. Harry Blake is an antique map and bookseller (it reminds of Steve Berry). He is called to look into a journal. The journal was written in a shorthand. The diary is of the Roanoke expedition. It was written by a boy named James Ogilvie. There was an icon aboard that ship and a plan to overthrow Queen Elizabeth. Harry Blake’s client then gets killed and the client’s daughter takes his place as the client. Harry Blake also recruits a friend of his Zola Khan on the mission to find the Icon before they are killed. A man who use being a priest as a cover wanted the icon as a way to attack several churches.   Harry, Zola, and Debbie (the daughter) do find the icon and Debbie sell the icon so she can be free of her uncle.

I did like this book even though it was slow at first. Now I’m reading The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory. I will be watching the movie on Monday.

You can get this book at Wordery.com, Amazon.com, and Kobo.com.
