The Omega Factor

I finished listening to The Omega Factor by Steve Berry. This book is a standalone book and not part of the Cotton Malone book series. I still wanted to read/listen to it anyway.

Big Warning: there is talk about child sex abuse by priests and some violence.

In this book, a man named Nick Lee wanted to see his ex girlfriend Kelsey who became a nun after they broke up. She had called him to talk about a major project she was working on. She is an art restorer. She was asked to clean the Ghent altarpiece Just Judges.  When she was cleaning it, she discovered the original painting was underneath. When Nick arrived, there was a fire happening. Someone set the painting on fire. Nick went into the building to search for Kelsey. She told him to get her laptop back. He went after the person who stole the laptop. That person was nun. The nun throw the laptop in the water below and Nick followed it to a convent. He did get the laptop back. On the laptop was copies of the painting. Kelsey and Nick begin their own investigations on who stole the laptop and why the painting was set on fire. The convent set the painting on fire to protect a secret that had sought to protect for many years. Nick and Kelsey find out that secret and they promise to keep it a secret. Kelsey joins the convent.

I loved this book. I’m reading next King of Fools by Amanda Foody. It is the sequel to the book Ace of Spaces which I read  a long time ago.

The End of Forever

I finished listening to The End of Forever by Steve Berry and M.J. Rose. It is a novella of Cassiopeia Vitt, the girlfriend of Cotton Malone. There are sixteen books in the Cotton Malone book series. Yes, I have read them all. No, I don’t have a favorite. I love them all. Steve Berry’s newest book coming out wouldn’t be about Cotton. I’m still going to read it.

Big Warning: There is one sad part and some violence.

In this book, Cassiopeia finds out that a family friend was murdered. She was wanting to investigate who did the murder but had no real leads. Then the castle she is building gets damaged a little bit. She thinks it was a warning of some kind and she thinks maybe the murder of a friend is connected. She goes to see a friend about some maps and then she gets kidnapped. She finds out that she was right the murder and the damage was connected and the man behind it all was a man on a revenge kick. She had put him in hot water with the police and lawsuits. So he wanted to ruin her life. She does kill him and saves Cotton and her friend from getting killed.

I finished listening to The House of Long Ago by Steve Berry. This is one of his novellas about Cassiopeia Vitt, the girlfriend of Cotton Malone. There are sixteen books in the Cotton Malone book series. Yes, I have read them all. No I don’t have a favorite. I love them all. Steve Berry’s newest book coming out wouldn’t be about Cotton. In this book, Cassiopeia visits her family’s villa in order to sell the painting in the house and the house itself. Her museum friend tells her that the paintings are copies. She finds out that her father had the originals hidden in a secret vault (This reminds of a The Blacklist episode where Red had gotten into a secret vault of a private detective.). Cassiopeia goes to the secret vault and finds the paintings that were missing. She seeks to find out who stole the paintings. In doing so, she gets almost killed and her friend almost gets killed.  In the end, she learns that her father was a great man who restored happiness to a lot of people.

The Warsaw Protocol

I finished listening to Warsaw Protocol by Steve Berry. It is the latest Cotton Malone book. There are sixteen books in the book series.

Warning: there is a lot of violence.

In this book, Cotton Malone is in Bruges, Belgium. He is supposed to attend a book auction. But he is sightseeing first. He is in a church and witnesses a robbery in action. It is a robbery of a holy relic. He promises the priest that he would get the relic back. Only he gets arrested for crashing a boat while chasing the thieves. Luckily Stephanie was there to help him out. The robbery was part of something bigger and that’s why she was there in Bruges. There were other relics stolen in order to be part of an auction of some information being sold to the highest bidder. The information is of the president of Poland’s past. The U.S. wants that info so missiles can be placed in Poland.  Other countries want the info for different reasons. Cotton really didn’t want to be involved, but he ends up being involved because he wants to save Stephanie’s job and the Russians are making him be involved. So the deputy of the US government and Cotton go to the auction. But things turn ugly and the Russians kill most of the people there. A Polish agent kills the guy who started the auction and she takes back one of the relics that was stolen. The Russians think that the information was gone for good since the guy who knew where it was hidden is now dead, but someone knew where the info was hidden. Cotton also found out where the info was hidden. The Russians do get the info, but Cotton gets the info back by killing the Russian. He ends up giving the info to the president of Poland who burns it.

I loved this book. The next Cotton Malone book is coming out in February (right before my birthday). I can’t wait. Now I’m going to listen to The Stand by Stephen King.

The Third Secret

I finished listening to The Third Secret by Steve Berry. It is not part of the Cotton Malone book series, but one of his stand alone books.

Warning: there is some violence and a suicide.

In this book, a man named Colin Michener is told by the pope to look into the Mary visionaries. Colin does because he is the pope’s secretary. But he can’t understand why. Later he finds out that it has to do with the third secret of Fatima. The pope finds out there was more to the third secret that was said in public. A bishop had stole part of the third secret. But the translator of the third secret sent a copy of it to the pope. The pope sends Colin to find out about another secret, but then the pope dies suddenly. Colin goes to find out that other secret and finds the third secret to compare them. Once he knows the secret, the church and his life is changed forever.

He runs for his life. He tells his boss about it. Unknown to him, his boss is behind the hit which was meant for Miles. His boss “works” for a committee that is trying to get a man to become the new czar of Russia. Miles does find info that would hurt the czar candidate. He finds info that two of the Imperial children had survived the massacre. While running for his life, Miles runs into a woman who ends up helping him in a quest to find the Imperial’s descendants.  They do find a descendant.

I did like this book. Next I’m reading Partners in Crime by Agatha Christie.

The Amber Room

I finished listening to The Amber Room by Steve Berry. It is a stand-alone book. I think it is his first published book.

Big Warning: there is a rape scene and talks of torture.

In this book, a judge named Rachel  has a father who survived WWII. Her father is obsessed with the amber room (panels made of carved amber). A man named Christian and a woman named Susanne are treasure hunters for two rich families. They steal art and other things that were already stolen. They are looking for the amber room. Although Susanne knows where the amber room is. Christian visits Rachel’s father and discovers nothing so he kills Rachel’s father.  In the end, they all know where the amber room is.

The Amber Room is a real thing. Here’s info on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amber_Room

The Columbus Affair

I finished reading The Columbus Affair by Steve Berry. It is a stand alone book.  There are seventeen books in the main Cotton Malone book series.  There is a prequel of this book called The Admiral’s Mark which I read earlier.

Warning: there is some violence

In this book, a man named Sagan is about to kill himself. His name was ruined and he sorta knew who was behind his name being ruined. Then he gets a visit by a man who shows him a video of his daughter being tied up. He is asked to agree for his father’s grave to be dung up. He finally agrees. His daughter wasn’t really kidnapped. She set the thing up so he would agree to have the grave dung up. In the grave was a packet of stuff that a man (who “kidnapped” Sagan’s daughter) was really after. The packet told about where to find the Jewish Temple treasure is.  Christopher Columbus (not his real name) was a Jew (might be true) and had hidden the Jewish Temple treasure.  Sagan doesn’t kill himself instead he refuses to let the man have the packet and go after the treasure himself. In the end, he finds himself and restores his relationship with his daughter.

I liked this book. Now I’m listening to The Amber Room by Steve Berry.

The Admiral’s Mark

I finished reading The Admiral’s Mark by Steve Berry.  It is a short story of the Cotton Malone book series. It’s a prequel of The Columbus Affair (which I will be reading later). There are seventeen books in the main book series so far.

In this short story/prequel, Cotton Malone’s brother-in-law dies. He drown in Haiti. It was recorded as an accident. But Cotton’s wife (now ex) orders him to find out what really happened to his brother-in-law.  He finds out that his brother-in-law had send his wife a mysterious message. He snoops in their room and finds a pamphlet of an auction about a book. Then two more men grab Cotton. These new men are with the Israeli government.
