I finished reading In The Serpent’s Wake by Rachel Hartman. It is the sequel to Tess of the Road.

In this book, Tess is on the boat with her sidekicks for her mission to take one of her sidekicks to the south pole so he can dream with the serpent. But her journey has a few snags. One the Countess keeps talking about her lover Lord Morney and that he would be traveling with them. Tess finally meets Lord Morney, only to discover that he is Will. Will is the one who raped her and left her when she was pregnant. Lord Morney though gets pushed overboard by one of Tess’ sidekicks and he gets attacked by sea creatures. The Countess kept saying he was a good man and Tess couldn’t stand it. She finally tells the Countess who Will really was and Countess doesn’t believe her until she reads Will’s journals. Another snag was the Countess’ other lover Giles. He was also to come on the journey to the south pole. But he refused and the Countess binds him and forces him on board with a sea creature. Giles wanted to record his history with the sea creature and Tess does set him free to do that and later she frees him and the sea creature. Another snag was that Tess almost starts a war between nations. In the end, she doesn’t get to go to the south pole. Her sidekicks do go to the south pole. The sea creatures tell Tess to go home and make peace there.
I loved this book. I hope there is another book because it was a cliffhanger ending. Now I’m going to read A Door into Evermoor by Kent Wayne.
