I am Mother

I watched I Am Mother before Christmas. It is on Netflix. It has Luke Hawker, Rose Byrne, Tahlia Sturzaker, Clara Rugaard, and Hilary Swank in it.

Warning: there is some violence.

In this movie, a robot takes an embryo and makes a little girl. She is the only little girl (supposedly) and the only human (supposedly). The robot becomes a mother to the girl. She is told that the outside is too toxic for her (which is not true). She later finds a mouse that has come in from one of the hatches. She brings the mouse to the robot that kills it. Then a woman comes to the research building. She says the robots tried to kill her and she was with a group near some mines. The girl believes her and the woman tries to convince her to leave the building. The girl finds out there were other girls before her who were killed. She does run away with the woman but comes back for her brother (a male embryo was chosen and made). The robot tells her that the other girls were killed because they didn’t meet the robot’s standards and this girl has.

Here’s a website that explains the movie better than me: https://www.distractify.com/p/i-am-mother-ending-explained

I liked this movie. Next week I will post about Master of the Shadowless Kick.

Ready Player Two

I finished listening to Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline. It is the sequel to Ready Player One. I had read that they are making a second movie. I also read that Ernest Cline is writing a third book which is supposed to be a prequel of the life of the founders of Oasis.

Warning: there is a little bit of violence.

In this book, Wade and the others do take over the Oasis business. While being CEO he discover new writing on the Easter egg that he won. The new writing leads him to a secret room with another Easter egg which has a secret headset which Holliday made and says his heir has the choice to reveal to the world or not. The new headset connects to your brain and makes you have new experiences within the Oasis program. The problem is that if you go beyond 12 hours you will have severe brain damage and die. Wade tells the others about it. Samantha is not thrilled with the new headset. (I agreed with her, but when I got to the end of the book I did change my mind like she does. ) But she is outnumbered and the new headsets go on the market. Also with the new headset is another contest for Halliday’s heir. It is the find seven shards to make the siren whole. The siren is Mr. Morrow’s wife. Wade gets stuck on the first clue. Then a girl helps with the clue. Then suddenly someone appears. It’s Halliday’s avatar which is an AI. He is crazy and threatens Wade to complete the contest because he has everyone hostage.  Wade does find all seven shards, but he has a plan to kill Halliday’s AI. But Mr. Morrow dies in the process. Wade decides to make the siren whole and brings back Mr. Morrow’s wife and Mr. Morrow. He also makes copies of people too. He sends the copies into space to find a new planet.

I liked this book. Now back to Narnia with The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis.

Chappie

I watched Chappie. It has Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, Ninja, Yo-Landi Visser, and Anderson Cooper in it.

Big Warning: there is some violence and one sad part.

In this movie, the police were using robots to keep violence down. A guy named Deon made these robots. His co-worker Vincent was jealous that the police were using Deon’s robots and not his. Deon was also secretly working on an AI that would make the robots more human. His boss told him no when tried to present his findings. So he decided to steal one of the robots and the chip that controls the robots. Then Deon and the damaged robot were kidnapped by gang members. They were wanting him to shut down all the robots. He told him his plan to see if his AI program actually works. They let him and it works. They name the robot Chappie. Chappie learns quickly and does some bad stuff. Vincent decides to use that to his advantage and cause all the robots to shut down so he can show everyone that his pet project is better than the robots. Chappie though kills him and kills the other robot. Chappie then successfully transfers Deon’s consciousness into a robot and then transfers Yo-Landi’s consciousness into a robot too.

I loved the movie. Next week I’m watching I am Mother to finish my AI movies.

Pacific Rim Uprising

I watched Pacific Rim Uprising. I had taped it when it was on HBO. It has John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Burn Gorman, Charlie Day, and Rinko Kikuchi in it.

Big Warning: there is some violence.

In this movie, A guy name Jake has a famous dad who saved the world (in the previous movie). He didn’t want to follow in his father’s footsteps. But he is forced to because he gets caught by the police with a young girl. Instead of going to prison, they both have to join the Rim Corp. Then a Jaeger goes rogue so Jake helps find out what is going on. (the villain is obvious. I had guessed who it was the moment Newton had hooked up to that alien brain) In the end, Newton was arrested and the world was saved again. There was a hint like there will be another movie, but I read that there won’t be anymore.

I like the movie. Someone has suggested the movie Chappie so I am watching it next week.

Ex Machina

I watched Ex Machina. I had taped it when it was on Showtime. It has Alicia Vikander, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Sonoya Mizuno, Claire Selby. and
Gana Bayarsaikhan in it.

Big Warning: there is some violence in it.

In this movie, a man named Caleb “wins” a trip to test out a major project with his boss at a research building in the woods. He has to sign an ADA before knowing the project is. The project was an AI. The test was to see if the AI surpasses human intelligence. The AI’s name is Ava. Caleb does the test over several days. During the test though there are power outages. (It was obvious that Ava was causing the power outages.) Ava tells Caleb that his boss wasn’t being truthful. Caleb decides to get his boss drunk to see himself about the lies his boss was telling. He gets freaked out and he cuts his wrist thinking he was an AI. It was then when his boss tells him he didn’t actually win the trip. He was chosen. The test was actually to see if Ava would escape. The thing was Caleb did recode the system. Ava escapes and leaves Caleb in the research building.

I didn’t like the ending. I don’t like cliffhanger endings and there is not going to be a sequel. But I did like the rest of the movie. Next week I’m watching Pacific Rim Uprising.

Jexi

I watched Jexi. I had taped it when it was on Showtime. It has Adam Devine, Alexandra Shipp, Rose Byrne, Ron Funches, Michael Peña, Charlyne Yi, Wanda Sykes, and Justin Hartley (love him).

In this movie, a man named Phil has an addiction to phones. His parents would distract him by giving them their phone so they would fight, etc. One day he ran into a girl and she accidentally knocked his phone out of his hand. He suddenly liked the girl, but then his phone was crushed by another biker. He got a new phone which had an AI named Jexi. He gives permission of everything to the AI and the AI says she is there to help improve his life. The AI tries to set up Phil and the girl he met. Then things look good for a while until he tells Jexi that she really helped him and then Jexi gets jealous and falls for Phil. Then Phil loses his job and almost the girl. Later on, he gets the job he dreams of and the girl. Jexi then helps Phil’s old boss.

I loved this movie. Next week I’m watching Ready Player One.
