I finished listening
to A House like a Lotus by Madeleine L’Engle. It is the third book of the Polly
O’Keefe book series. There are four books in the book series. I already the
fourth one which was tagged on the A Wrinkle in Time book series.
Warning: there is a sex scene, a misunderstanding, and a sexual assault.
In this book, Polly
O’Keefe’s uncle introduces her to a good friend of his named Maximiliana Horne.
Max becomes a teacher for Polly. She goes over to her house to talk and learn
about all kinds of topics. Max introduces Polly to an doctor intern who specializes
in a rare disease. He is trying to find a cure for it. She later figures out
that Max has this rare disease and is dying. Polly’s brother and cousin hears
rumors about Max being lesbian. Max ends up telling Polly that it was true.
Then Ursula, Max’s partner, asks Polly to stay the night with Max. To sooth the
pain she feels, Max drinks. She gets really drunk. She stands up and moves
toward Polly and Polly flees out of the house. (I think this is
misunderstanding. I don’t think it was seduction. She got all the rumors in her
head and thought the worst of Max.) Polly panics and gets a cut on her foot and
a guy tries to get Polly to have sex with him. Then she does have sex with the
Max had planned
Polly to go to Greece to help out at a conference before the drunken
misunderstanding happened. So she goes
to Greece and meets a guy named Zachery Grey. (I don’t like him.) Then at the
conference she meets some really nice people who teach her what true friendship
and love is which leads her to forgive Max for the misunderstanding that had
I loved this book.
I’m sad that this is the last book and there won’t be anymore because Madeleine died. She really was a great
author. Now I’m listening to 14th Colony by Steve Berry.
I finished Dragons
in the Waters by Madeleine L’Engle. It
is the second book of the Polly O’Keefe book series. There are three books in
the book series.
Big Warning: there
is a little bit of violence.
In this book, Polly,
her brother Charles, and her father are going on a boat ride to Port of Dragons
in Venezula. They met a boy named Simon Renier and his “Cousin”
Forsyth Phair who are going to Caracas to deliver an important painting to a museum. When Simon tries to board the ship he almost
gets killed, but Polly saves him. Simon almost gets killed again later on, but
one of the ship’s staff saves him. Then Simon’s “cousin” gets killed
on the ship. They find out later that the cousin was a con man and the real
Forsyth Phair died a few months back. The con man was trying to kill Simon. In
the end, the murderer was caught and Simon finds peace on Dragonlake.
I loved this book. I
will be getting the third Polly book. I’m reading next N0S4A2 by Joe Hill. Yes,
there is a tv show based on the book. I will be watching it while reading the
I finished reading
The Arm of the Starfish by Madeleine L’Engle. It is the first book of the Polly
O’Keefe book series. There are three books in the book series.
Big Warning: there
is some violence.
In this book, a boy
named Adam is given an opportunity to work for Dr. O’Keefe (Cavin who married
Meg) at his lab in Portugal. While
traveling there, he meets a girl named Kali. She tells Adam that Dr. O’Keefe is
no good. This makes him very confused about who is telling the truth. He later
is put in charge of Poly O’Keefe who is
12 years old. But he loses her and she is kidnapped by Kali’s father who
wants O’Keefe’s work and sell it to China.
Adam does find Poly again. Everything ends up being clear when he does
work for Dr. O’Keefe.
I did like this
book. I just got the second book in the O’Keefe book series, but I have to read
a book I had recommended to Overdrive first since it became available first. It
is Moon of Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice.
finished listening to An Acceptable Time by Madeleine L’Engle. It’s labeled
as the fifth book of the Time Quintet book series (A Wrinkle in Time book
series), but I think it should be the last book of the O’Keefe book series.
Warning: there is some violence.
In this book, Meg’s daughter Polly is taking some time
of from school to stay with her grandparents. She had met a guy when she went
on class trip to Athens. His name is Zachary Grey. He shows up at her
grandparents house wanting to see her again. They see a strange man near one of
the trees, but the man doesn’t say anything to them and then the man
disappears. Then Polly meets a strange girl. The man and girl are part of the
past of 3,000 years ago. Zachary tells Polly that his heart is bad and he is dying.
Then they both go back into the past. Zachary is so focused on getting his
heart fixed that he does something so terrible that ruins their friendship.
Zachary and Polly do come back to the present.
Even though I didn’t like Zachary, I loved the book. I
will be reading the O’Keefe book series soon. Now I’m reading A Clockwork
Orange by Anthony Burgess.
I finished listening to A Slightly Tilting Planet by Madeleine L’Engle. It is the third book of the Time Quinet book series. (I skipped the second book, but I might go back to listen to it.)
Warning: there is a little bit of violence.
In this book, Meg is older (around 24 or 25 years old) and she’s married to Calvin. She’s also pregnant. Charles Wallace is older too. He’s 15 years old. Their father gets a phone call from the president about a mad man is calling for a nuclear war. Calvin’s mother tells Charles Wallace needs to remember a rune and to save everyone. Charles Wallace thinks he can’t do on his own. He meets a unicorn (so cool. I love unicorns) who takes him back in time to find out who the mad man is (I was wrong about who he is. I was thinking it was Mrs. O’Keefe’s brother. It wasn’t). He changes the past to stop the nuclear war from happening.
I loved, loved this book. It’s an awesome book. Now I’m listening to Mary Poppins Comes Back by Pamela Lyndon Travers. It is the second book of the Mary Poppins book series.
I watched A Wrinkle in Time. There is a book that the movie is based on by Madeleine L’Engle which I finished listening to. I watched it on Netflix. It has Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Zach Galifianakis, and Michael Peña in it.
Warning: there is a little bit of violence.
Quick Summary: There is a girl named Meg whose her father went missing. Her father is a scientist. Meg, her brother Charles Wallace , and a boy named Calvin go on a wild journey to find Meg’s father.
Here is the differences between the book and movie:
1. There was no wall and storm when they go to the dark planet in the book.
2. Calvin doesn’t fall off when flying in the book.
3. They meet the red eye man in a room not a beach in the book.
4. They meet two other guys in the book before going to the Central Central Intelligence.
5. They see Meg’s father in a cell in the book.
6. Meg’s father take her out of the room with It. They land on another planet and she’s frozen in the book.
7. Meg’s father doesn’t see Meg at first in the book. In the movie, they see each other.
8. The creatures on the other planet help Meg unfreeze in the book.
9. The three W’s tell Meg that she has to go back to save her brother in the book. In the movie, when her father tries to take her away from It, she doesn’t leave.
Even though there were some differences, it is a good movie and I did like it. Next Monday I’m watching Snow White: A Tale of Terror. I will also be watching Dark Places once I finish the book.
I finished listening to A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. It is the first book in the Time Quintet book series.
In this book, a girl named Meg who is very bright (gifted) gets ridiculed in school because her father had gone missing. Her father is a scientist. He is sent on mission wherehe gets lost in space. Meg’s little brother is different too. He had met some interesting people. Meg and her brother go meet this interesting people one day. While going there, they meet up with Calvin (a boy who is different too.). Those interesting people tell them they can find Meg and her brother’s father. So they take a wild journey through time and space. They end up finding her fatheron a dark planet. Her brother gets sucked into the brain of the planet. Meg saves her brother.
I loved this book. I have the third book of the book series on hold. I’m reading next Dark Places by Gillian Flynn.
