Moon on Crusted Snow

I finished reading Moon of Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice. It is a book I recommended to Overdrive and it came available.

Big Warning: there is some violence and some sad parts

This book is about a Canadian Indian tribe that loses even modern thing through a harsh winter. Evan is the main character. He first discovers that the cell phones won’t work. His girlfriend and two kids find out there is no cable tv. Then the landline phone service goes out. The Indian tribe go door to door with news. Then two college kids come back home from the South. They tell horrible stories of the city in the South and college students. The tribe decides to use an emergency food storage. Then a white man (Scott) shows up from the South. He tells them that he can hunt and he could help them if they let him stay. They let him stay, but he ends up being a bad guy. Some more people from the South come too. In the end, Scott supposedly stole a body and was going to eat it. Scott is killed and Evan’s family moved to a safer place he had built for them.

I loved, loved this book. I didn’t want it to end. Now I’m reading Dragons in the Water by Madeleine L’Engle. It is the second book of the Polly O’Keefe book series.
