BirdBox

I finished reading Bird Box by Malerman. There is a movie that is based on the book. I did watch that movie.

Warning: there is scary parts, gross parts, and some violence.

This is book is about a creature that makes people commit suicide when they look at it. It is also about a brave woman named Malorie. She is pregnant. Her sister tells her to watch the news. The creature starts overseas. Malorie isn’t really worried about the news like her sister until there is reports of suicides in Alaska.  They get prepared with putting blankets over windows. Then her sister “sees” the creature and she dies. Malorie goes to a “safe house.” In the “safe house,” there are four other people. Tom, the leader of the house, tells her the owner of the house died. Then later a knock at the door, it is another pregnant woman comes to the “safe house.” Later on, they get another at the door and it is a man named Gary. Gary has a weird story that turns out to a false story. He convinces Don that the creatures don’t harm people which is a lie. Don opens the windows and everyone dies expect Malorie and the two babies. She gets a phone call from a man promising another safe house, but to get there they will have to travel on the river blindfolded. They make the journey with some bumps along the way.

I loved this book. There is supposedly a sequel coming out Oct. 1. Now I’m listening to Many Waters by Madeleine L’Engle. It is the fourth book of the Time Quintet book series.

Murder Ahoy

I watched Murder Ahoy yesterday. It is inspired by the character Miss Marple, not based on a book. I taped it when it was on TCM. It has Margaret Rutherford, Lionel Jeffries, Charles ‘Bud’ Tingwell, William Mervyn, Nicholas Parsons, Stringer Davis, and Lucy Griffiths in it.

Big Warning: there is a little bit of violence.

In this movie, Miss Marple is part of a board of trustees of a marine training ship. One of the trustees speaks up about something, but before he says anything he dies suddenly. Miss Marple finds out the trustee was poisoned with his snuff. To kind out who was behind it, she gets on board the training vessel. She also discovers a thief ring of some of the sailors.

I loved this movie. I wish they had made some more movies. Next week I’m watching Darrow and Darrow: Body of Evidence.
