I finished reading The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. It is the third book of her Boleyn book series. I haven’t read the other books yet, but I do plan on reading some more of her books someday. There is a tv movie and a movie based on this book. I did watch the movie.
Warning: there is some hints of incest and some disturbing things.
Before I begin my summary, I need to say at first I really did think Anne Boleyn could have been guilty of the charges against her. But now I have changed my mind. I’ll put my theory below my summary.
The Other Boleyn Girl is about the other Boleyn girl, Mary Boleyn. Mary Boleyn is the sister of Anne Boleyn. Mary was married at a very young age and then her uncle and father suggest for her to be mistress of King Henry VIII. The queen couldn’t bore a son. Mary does have a son and daughter by the king. But while she gave birth to her son, Anne stepped in to keep the king’s mind on Mary, but Anne got greedy and stole the king from her. She made the king annul his marriage to the queen. Anne also “took” Mary’s son away from her. Anne became queen. But she was greedy and thought everyone was against her and for the queen. Mary thinks Anne may have poisoned and caused the death of some people. Later on, mobs on the city wanted Anne dead because she had pushed the queen out. Anne did have a daughter who will later become Queen Elizabeth. Mary does go back to her husband for a short while until he dies of a horrible sickness. She marries in secret to another man who is very good to her. She has two kids by him. Anne has three miscarriages. The last miscarriage was a deformed baby. This led to her charge which was incest and treason. Anne and her brother were beheaded.
My theory changed after I was reading a blog yesterday. One person commented that back then alcohol was a big thing and no one knew the dangers of drinking while pregnant like today. It can cause deformities and miscarriages. So I don’t Anne was guilty of incest.
I did like the book. Tomorrow I’m listening to The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I will watch the movie on Thursday.
